Mar Muñoz-Visoso serves as the Executive Director of the Secretariat for Cultural Diversity at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC, and recently took on a new role as the Chair of Hispanic Access Foundation’s Board of Directors. Muñoz-Visoso began her career as a journalist in Denver, Colorado, supporting the local archdiocese with the Spanish language section of the catholic diocesan newspaper. At that time, the church was trying to reach Latino communities, so Muñoz-Visoso founded El Pueblo Católico: A Spanish-language newspaper that is now celebrating its 25th anniversary. She then became the director of Hispanic Ministry, and also served as the Executive Director for Centro San Juan Diego. Her leadership experience and career in communications and ministry continues to impact intercultural communities, especially through her work with Hispanic Access.

“I met Maite in Washington, D.C, when she was just getting started with the organization, and I believed in her dreams, and I wanted to be a part of what she was establishing,” said Mar Muñoz-Visoso. “Her vision and capacity to form strong alliances has been very inspirational for me.”

As a long-standing member of the Board of Directors, Muñoz-Visoso has experienced the organization’s ‘growing pains’. Working alongside other leaders, and learning how to guide and reach the Latino community has been essential to her role. Muñoz-Visoso has witnessed exponential change in funding and program development, but as the organization evolves, she plans to assist with more initiatives to support community members, and provide them with the necessary tools to succeed.

“Hispanic Access has reached a level where it's not just about providing service— it's time for Hispanic and Latino leaders that are part of the network to serve others,” Muñoz-Visoso. “I see the organization growing as an inclusive leader of the Black, Indigenous, Latino and people of color community.”
