Valentín Feliciano received an undergraduate degree in industrial biotechnology and a Master of Engineering in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez. Before coming to Hispanic Access, Yashira volunteered with Lead Up Mentoring Network and the Clean Water Science Network Mentorship Program. Over her career, she has collaborated with institutions including the University of Michigan, South Dakota State University, the University of Massachusetts, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Climate Reality Project, and Sierra Club Puerto Rico.
“I want to work in a place where I can help others and see how my contributions impact them for the better,” said Valentín Feliciano. “I am specifically interested in supporting Latinos and people of color, focusing on student outreach, STEM, environmental science, and climate change. Hispanic Access Foundation has been the right fit for me, a place where I can move toward all my goals while working alongside others who are also striving to deliver the best for our community.”
As STEM Program Manager, Valentín Feliciano’s responsibilities include the execution of the program vision, objectives, and strategies; creating detailed project plans and designing and developing STEM curriculum, workshops, and activities that promote STEM education and engagement; coordinating and managing program activities, including workshops, events, and educational initiatives; and collaborating with schools, parents, teachers, and students to promote STEM education and participation in the program.
“Yashira is a leader, environmental science educator, and spokesperson who creates bridges between academia and communities through public outreach,” said Maite Arce, president and CEO of Hispanic Access. “She has the passion, managerial and organizational skills, and educational background in STEM to help ensure the program’s success.
Hispanic Access’ growing STEM program seeks to engage and inspire Latinos across the country to pursue careers in the STEM fields. This work is conducted through community partnerships, outreach, and activities.
