As I approach my final days as an Urban Community Engagement fellow, I have had time to reflect on my accomplishments at the refuge where I am stationed. Juggling a 40-hour work week into my full-time college agenda was a task in itself, but I pushed through and came out to be successful, acquiring skills I never thought I would develop along the way.
My time at the refuge has been a journey of personal growth, during which I've had the opportunity to work on various community projects. From leading educational field trips in a mobile classroom to creating and leading educational programs about the insects that we can’t live without and developing resources that these communities will have way after my fellowship is over, each experience has allowed me to make a significant and positive impact on the local community. These efforts have honed my leadership, communication, and project management skills and brought about tangible change, a source of accomplishment for me and my team.
I am proud of the relationships I have built with my community, colleagues, and partners during my time as a fellow. These connections have enriched my professional network and given me a deeper understanding of urban communities' issues and challenges. The knowledge and experiences gained during this fellowship will be a strong foundation for my future community engagement and social impact endeavors.
As I prepare to transition out of this role, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support and guidance I have received from Hispanic Access, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, my mentors, and my peers. Their mentorship and support have been unwaveringly invaluable, and I appreciate the opportunities provided to me to grow and contribute in meaningful ways. Their belief and trust in me has been a driving force in my journey.
As I look to the future, I am eager to continue applying the skills and insights I've gained during my fellowship to drive positive change in urban communities. I am confident that the lessons learned and the connections made will continue to shape my journey as a community advocate.
